South Africa is a massive country where the only thing that rivals its variety in scenery is its diversity in cultures. I partnered with Baz Bus, South Africa’s premier transportation option for backpackers, to showcase the very best South Africa had to offer. Starting in cosmopolitan Cape Town and working my way up all the way to the urban jungle of Johannesburg, I encountered something unique and breathtaking every step of the way. The lush forests of Wilderness, the pristine coastlines of Plettenberg Bay, the untamed countrysides of the Wild Coast, the towering Drakensberg Mountain ranges… It just barely begins to scratch the surface. There is so much to South Africa, a country that quickly catapulted its way to becoming one of my favorites.
This was one of my most fun projects to date. Spending hours on the Baz Bus getting from place to place, it was inevitable that strangers became friends and a simple bus ride turned into an occasion of camaraderie. Each bus ride, despite the occasional early morning start, was often as interesting as the adventures we went on once we got off. Meeting people from various countries, continents, and backgrounds is the best part of travel, and the Baz Bus provided just that. Throughout the whole of South Africa, my only hope was that I could do justice to the often surreal and ethereal sights I got to see. Beyond that, I wanted to experience it all, be it ocean, mountain, township, or safari. The month I spent traveling and sharing stories through Baz Bus was the trip of a lifetime, and I hope my photos below could even provide you with the tiniest bit of awe that taking each one provided me.
